\"rumler\"<\/a> Citing nothing has happened and a lack of progress in education funding, health care, the capitol bill (the state bill that determines the allocation of funds for the year), and pension funds, Paul Rumler has decided to run again for the state senate. One person can make a difference by working well with others says Rumler (D-Moline). Running a very grassroots, volunteer driven campaign, Rumler believes in something his parents taught him, “if you have an opinion voice it, if you want to see something changed, do something about it.” <\/p>\n

Rumler’s changes include  securing more funds for the Quad Cities and gaining trust back in the state of Illinois government. The Quad Cities received $92 million which sound like a lot, Rumler says but other areas with similar populations like Peoria ($120 million), Decatur ($170 million), Champaign ($200 million), and Rockford ($260 million) received a lot more on a $25 billion capitol bill.
“The Q-C area got the short end of the stick that goes back to our representation,” he said. “That deals with building those relationships with your colleagues and credibility.” <\/p>

Through his work at the Chamber of Commerce Rumler is hoping for funds to bring Amtrak to the Quad Cities with a direct route from Chicago. Rumler also stated the importance of getting the Western Illinois Quad City Campus which would cost about $75 million for a true campus, he said. The five counties in the district, Henry, Mercer, Whiteside, Carroll, and Rock Island County would receive the same type of constituent service if he were elected. <\/p>\n

On the Roadway Safety and Mandatory Insurance Act (HB 1100), which would have given the undocumented a driving certificate, Rumler said he could not support the bill. “it does a great disservice to the people who follow the laws and came here legally,” he said. <\/p>\n

Rumler said that the undocumented population, already here should be showed the process of becoming a citizen, getting a driver’s license, and not making the issue about mass deportation. On English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, Rumler said Ericsson School in Moline, is a great example of success. He noted English Learner Programs (ELL) that adapts the language known with English to make sure that no one falls behind. <\/p>\n

For fun, Rumler likes to spend time with his family, friends, and play golf. His favorite book is a book on Afghan culture “The Kite Runner” and his favorite movie “The Good Shepard”.  His favorite quote is The Serenity Prayer, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. The courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.” <\/p>
