\"republican_caucus\"<\/a> Mike Huckabee may have won the Republican Party’s caucus in Iowa but Bettendorf precinct 1-1 felt differently with Mitt Romney winning by eight votes over John McCain. <\/p>\n

The Republican caucus kicked off with supporters of the candidates speaking in front of everyone and applause for all the candidates. Those eligible voted on a piece of paper and the ballots were counted by supporters of each candidate campaigns. After the results were announced, many voters left, even as delegates and party platform were being voted on. <\/p>

Lyle Mohr and his wife, Sandy voted for Mitt Romney because the main issue for them was secure borders. “Not just Mexicans but terrorists, anyone can come across our border, we need to tighten up our border, that’s all there is to it,” Sandy Mohr said. <\/p>\n

  <\/p>\n

“As long, as they come here legally, it’s not a problem. We could use their help,” Lyle Mohr said.
The couple did not like eventual Iowa caucus winner, Huckabee for raising taxes. “At the beginning, he was the guy but he sound more liberal than most Republicans are.” <\/p>\n

Constance Hanson, a Huckabee supporter, disagreed saying she made her decision after hearing everyone out, three weeks ago. “I like his moral stance (Huckabee) and I agree with it.” <\/p>\n

  <\/p>\n

Andrea Cakeris, a student at the University of Northern Iowa liked McCain along with her parents, Martha and Steve. They liked McCain for making his own decisions and not being swayed. Andrea said her parents influenced her a little bit but said that she liked McCain since he’d been around “a really long time.” <\/p>
