DES MOINES \u2013 The League of United Latin American Citizens, Council 307, today<\/a> spoke out against President Donald Trump\u2019s announcement he would sign an executive order to remove the right of citizenship for U.S.-born children of non-citizens and illegal immigrants.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a blatant unconstitutional attempt to fan the flames of anti-immigrant hatred in the days ahead of the midterm election,\u201d said Joe Enriquez Henry, president of LULAC Council 307. \u201cThe 14<\/span>th<\/sup> Amendment\u2019s citizenship guarantee is clear. You can\u2019t erase the Constitution with an executive order.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>

The Constitution\u2019s 14<\/span>th<\/sup> Amendment was enacted after the Civil War to ensure black Americans who had previously been subject to slavery had full citizenship rights. Through the amendment citizenship is granted to \u201call persons born or naturalized in the United States.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
