{"id":688,"date":"2007-09-05T20:38:47","date_gmt":"2007-09-05T20:38:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/166.62.41.2\/~holaamericanews\/2007\/09\/05\/amigos-of-garfield-park-receive-1500-donation\/"},"modified":"2022-07-17T15:14:13","modified_gmt":"2022-07-17T20:14:13","slug":"amigos-of-garfield-park-receive-1500-donation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/es\/amigos-of-garfield-park-receive-1500-donation\/","title":{"rendered":"Amigos of Garfield Park Receive $1500 Donation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=569&amp;Itemid=2&amp;mosmsg=Art%EDculo+guardado.&amp;lang=en\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-687\" title=\"los_amigos_committee\" src=\"http:\/\/166.62.41.2\/~holaamericanews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/09\/los_amigos_committee.jpg\" alt=\"los_amigos_committee\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" align=\"left\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" \/><\/a>A typical summer evening in the park includes children laughing, adults chatting, and cars cruising by.\u00a0 This past Monday it also included an area business donating $1,500 dollars to Amigos Park in downtown East Moline.\u00a0 Ignacio \u201cNacho\u201d Gonzalez and Joy Hayes owners of Los Cuates Cantina put together El Baile Del Sol to help raise money for a park adopted by neighbors of the park.\u00a0 Over the past few years many East Moline parks were at risk of being closed down due to lack of funding that could provide maintenance for city parks.\u00a0 Wendy Hilton-Morrow East Moline Park Board Treasurer, wanted to keep this from happening.\u00a0 With the help of the East Moline Volunteer Corps Wendy helped a group of East Moline residents adopt Garfield Park.\u00a0 \u201cLast year Los Cuates donated $1,000 and this year they have donated another $1,500 to assist Garfield Park.\u201d\u00a0 Wendy hopes<br \/>\n<!--more--> that more parks get adopted and become successful like Watertown Memorial Park; she did admit that rebuilding these parks is a slow process but said; \u201cOnly good things can happen when community members take part in their parks.\u201d<br \/>\nWhen Nacho and Joy moved to the Quad Cities from Chicago, Joy only knew Wendy Hilton-Morrow, a former classmate of hers at the University of Iowa.\u00a0 Joy and Nacho both wanted to give back to the community so Wendy suggested donating to an East Moline Park.\u00a0 Wendy knew the perfect one.\u00a0 When Joy and Nacho drove by Garfield Park they both knew that it was the perfect place to help.\u00a0 The park symbolized the hard working values, traditions, and family ties found in the Hispanic community.\u00a0 Nacho and Joy organized the Baile Del Sol with help from Los Amigos Committee.\u00a0 Nacho said, \u201cI could not have done the dance without the help of our volunteers from the committee.\u00a0 They really wanted to help raise money for their park.\u00a0 They did a lot of work and put in a lot of time to help make the dance successful.\u201d<br \/>\nPano Gomez Jr. grew up near Garfield Park;
