\"mhs\"<\/a>Moline High school celebrated its 132nd annual graduation at Wharton Field House to numerous Latino students who graduated and some who finished in the top ten percent of the class, Principal Gary Koeller said.
\n\u201cThey brought a diversity of culture and were an integral part of Moline,\u201d he said.
\nMoline School District Superintendent, Cal Lee said that the students were extremely well prepared.
\n\u201cWe have them in engineering programs and honors classes,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have the understanding in order to break cycles.\u201d
\nFelipe Villagomez had a speech
\n titled, \u201cMy High School\u201d. In the speech, he spoke about his parents never having an educational opportunity, he ended the speech with a quote in Spanish, \u201cLos que no miran para adelante se quedan para atras.\u201d
\nBoth of his parents, Felipe Sr. and Rosa Villagomez were very proud of him.
\n\u201cWe made a lot of sacrifices,\u201d Rosa Villagomez said. \u201cI didn\u2019t want him working like us.\u201d
\nBrenda Hernandez was also the first in her family to graduate. She along with her family came from Salvatierra, Guanajuato. She said that when she first came here she had to learn English and needed help in learning the language in school.
\n\u201cI am proud,\u201d she said. \u201cKeep your dreams, don\u2019t ever give up.\u201d
\nAnother graduate, Raul Ramirez wants to be an architect and advised the youth to go to college.
\n\u201cYou\u2019ll make more money,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
