The Quad Cities\u2019 First and Only 4th of July Competitive Running Event, the Firecracker Run is coming soon!\u00a0 The event will go on rain or shine with a race for just about everyone to choose from.\u00a0 The event will be held in East Moline on 15th Avenue and 8th Street starting on Tuesday, July 3rd 2007 with the Kiddie Run at 5:30PM and THE National Bank Mile at 6:00PM, ending\u00a0 with the Post Race Party & Awards at 6:30PM.\u00a0 On Wednesday, July 4th, 2007 the 5k run will begin at 7:30AM, and the 10k run at 7:30AM, ending with the Awards Presentation at 9:00AM.\u00a0 The top 3 finishers in the 5K & 10K races (male and female) will receive special awards.\u00a0 Those who wish to participate are encouraged to register as soon as possible since prices to enter will change.
\nThe Firecracker Run was started by the owner of Adolph\u2019s Taco House, John Perez, who was also the race\u2019s first director.\u00a0 For 25 years the Firecracker Run has been going strong attracting many more runners each time, thanks to the support of the citizens of East Moline and its mayor and council.\u00a0 The race would be impossible to put on without the help of many organizations, sponsors, and volunteer\u2019s from around the Quad Cities, says Robert Cervantes, the race\u2019s current director.
\n\u201cWe don\u2019t have the big name or can we afford to give away big prize money like the Bix or the Q.C. Marathon, but we are one of the few races in the Quad Cities where the local runner can still WIN! And we will stay true to this as long as I am race director\u201d, said Cervantes.
\nSince the Firecracker Run began, there have been four directors; John Perez, who we\u2019ve mentioned was the first, the second, Jose Moreno, the third, Dawn Brooks, and of course Mr. Cervantes.\u00a0 All proceeds from the event go back into the community.\u00a0 The Firecracker Run has seen as many as 2300 runners and walkers participate, which is why the race has been successful for 25 years.<\/p>\n
