President George W. Bush challenged lawmakers to pass an immigration bill the week of June 4 -10, 2007 even with pressure from both sides. Bush was working to get bipartisan support for the bill that would legalize millions of the undocumented, tighten border security and ensure that employers are hiring legal workers.
\nThe bill features items that
\n<\/p>\n

would create a new points system prioritizing skills and education over the family in who comes into the country in the future.
\nKey senators from both political parties agreed on May 17th to a compromise in the Senate that has yet to be voted on. Senator Edward (Ted) Kennedy, D-Mass. Told MSNBC that the bill would bring, \u201cmillions of people out of the shadows and into the sunshine of America.\u201d
\nA cap approved by the Senate limits the number of immigrants that come into the country with the number being 200,000 per year.
