{"id":422,"date":"2007-04-04T17:27:28","date_gmt":"2007-04-04T17:27:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/166.62.41.2\/~holaamericanews\/2007\/04\/04\/alderman-margie-mejia-caraballo-seeks-reelection-in-rock-island\/"},"modified":"2022-07-16T12:33:32","modified_gmt":"2022-07-16T17:33:32","slug":"alderman-margie-mejia-caraballo-seeks-reelection-in-rock-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/es\/alderman-margie-mejia-caraballo-seeks-reelection-in-rock-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Alderman Margie Mejia-Caraballo seeks reelection in Rock Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=365&amp;Itemid=2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-421\" title=\"alderman_mejia\" src=\"http:\/\/166.62.41.2\/~holaamericanews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/04\/alderman_mejia.jpg\" alt=\"alderman_mejia\" width=\"260\" height=\"173\" align=\"left\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" \/><\/a>On Tuesday April 17th Margie Mejia-Caraballo will be seeking re-election as 5th Ward Alderman for the city of Rock Island.\u00a0 Margie has been in her position since August of 2006 when she was chosen from a pool of candidates and appointed alderman by the mayor.\u00a0 Over the past 7 months Margie has addressed all the concerns brought to her attention by the citizens she serves.\u00a0 The complaints range from noisy<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>neighbors and parking tickets to street improvements and traffic lights.\u00a0 In her next 4 years Margie hopes to continue serving the city and bringing more family orientated activities to the area.<br \/>\nMargie worked for 18 years as a social worker and knows the importance of families participating in positive activities together.<br \/>\n\u201cSafe, fun, and affordable family entertainment is what needs to be added to The District,\u201d said Margie.\u00a0 \u201cToo often there are great events but it is hard for a family to pay $8 dollars a person to attend.\u00a0 I want Rock Island to continue being a great city for families.\u201d<br \/>\nWith the current riverboat moving from its current location, new ideas and possibilities for the Rock Island riverfront are being sought out.\u00a0 Some ideas for the area include a possible amphitheater, new businesses in the district, and throughout Rock Island.<br \/>\n\u201cI want to be sure that the city council is fiscally responsible with our taxpayer\u2019s money,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Margie says.<br \/>\nWhen asked about the negative press that Rock Island gets, Margie was very quick to respond in saying, \u201cThere is some negative press about Rock Island, but a lot of the good is never reported.\u00a0 Our police department solves most crimes brought to their attention very quickly.\u00a0 Rock Island also has a solid number of merit scholars, and a variety of activities that bring the whole Quad Cities together.\u00a0 We also have great housing options for all age groups.\u201d<br \/>\nMargie hopes that the citizens of Rock Island will do their part as well in making their city better.<br \/>\n\u201cWe all have the opportunity to get involved and improve our situations and our communities.\u00a0 It\u2019s so easy to sit back and let things be done for us, but that is not enough, we need to get involved.\u00a0 We are in America, and we have opportunities to change things.\u00a0 So many people use race and gender as an excuse for not achieving more, but this is not the correct mentality.\u00a0 As we walked across the bridge during the immigration marches last year, we chanted today we march tomorrow we vote, well tomorrow is here and we need to keep our promise and vote.\u00a0 We have a lot of Latinos running for office and we need to get out there to vote and support each other.\u201d<\/p><div id=\"holaa-3451080994\" class=\"holaa-ad-inside-articles-2\" style=\"margin-top: 2px;margin-bottom: 2px;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><div class=\"holaa-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesperformingarts.org\/whats-on\/series\/summerarts\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" aria-label=\"HI-SummerSeries-300&#215;250-SP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/HI-SummerSeries-300x250-SP.jpg\" alt=\"\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div><br style=\"clear: both;
