For some Hispanics, getting the proper health information can be difficult especially when their English is limited.\u00a0 On Sunday, April 29 the Illinois Migrant Council will be hosting a health fair called \u201cCelebrating Life\u201d at the St. Mary\u2019s Catholic Church, 420 10th St. Moline, Ill., to better inform the Hispanic Community about health issues
\n that affect this segment of the population as well as updating them on the services that are currently available from area agencies.\u00a0 The event runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and is free of charge.\u00a0 The IMC would like to provide food and refreshments for attendees; however their grant only covers the program itself and does not cover miscellaneous things.\u00a0 To help cover the costs of the event and refreshments the IMC is asking area businesses and organizations for donations to help with the added expenses.
\n\u201cThe main objective it to get the Hispanic community the most recent information of the resources available for them,\u201d Laura Lopez of the Illinois Migrant Council said.
\nMrs. Lopez says that many people think they know what some agencies can do for them but don\u2019t realize that they eventually ad more services.
\nInformation will be provided about Diabetes, Breast and Cervical Cancer, HIV prevention, dental information, and men\u2019s health information.\u00a0 Many area agencies will have current information about the services they provide.\u00a0 For more information about the event or if you are considering being part of the event please contact Teresa Mendez at (309)757-1070 or via email at tmendez@illinoismigrant.org.<\/p>\n
