DES MOINES, IA \u2013 Members of the League of United Latino American Citizens Council 307 will accept applications for its annual scholarship until March 31.<\/p>\n

The scholarships will be presented at the annual Latino Leadership Awards Banquet, which will take place later this year. Students will be notified after June 15 if they are a scholarship recipient. Last year, Council 307 presented two $1,000 scholarships to two Des Moines-area high school seniors.<\/p>

\u201cIt is vitally important that we support our youth and provide them with the resources they need in order to succeed,\u201d said Jorge Valencia, the banquet committee chairman.<\/p>\n

Council 307\u2019s scholarship committee will evaluate each applicant based on the application criteria. Scholarships will be awarded to qualified Hispanic students who have applied to or are enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. college or university, including two-year colleges and vocational schools. Awards begin at $250. Scholarships may be used for the payment of tuition, academic fees, room, board and the purchase of required educational materials and books.<\/p>\n

This is the fourth year Council 307 has presented an academic scholarship to area high school students. Nationally, LULAC has considered education its No. 1 priority since the organization was established in 1929.<\/p>
