{"id":368,"date":"2007-03-07T18:05:00","date_gmt":"2007-03-07T18:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/166.62.41.2\/~holaamericanews\/2007\/03\/07\/latin-american-social-club-elects-new-officers\/"},"modified":"2022-07-16T12:14:06","modified_gmt":"2022-07-16T17:14:06","slug":"latin-american-social-club-elects-new-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/es\/latin-american-social-club-elects-new-officers\/","title":{"rendered":"Latin American Social Club Elects New Officers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"index.php?option=com_content&amp;task=view&amp;id=324&amp;Itemid=2&amp;mosmsg=Art%EDculo+guardado.&amp;lang=en\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-367\" title=\"sterling\" src=\"http:\/\/166.62.41.2\/~holaamericanews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/sterling.jpg\" alt=\"sterling\" width=\"218\" height=\"144\" align=\"left\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" \/><\/a>Inside the Latin American Social Club building just in Sterling, Ill., members of the club, officers and their families and friends gathered for the appointment of new officers for the LASC.\u00a0 The ceremony began with welcoming remarks and speeches from organizations that have worked with the club.\u00a0 Then there was a blessing, and after that the crowd of over 100 people filled their plates from a large array of dishes that covered three large tables.\u00a0 After the feast, Club President Frank Aguilar followed the tradition and read the oath as the officers standing in front of him with their right hands up repeated after him, and just like that a total of thirteen new positions<br \/>\n<!--more--> were appointed.\u00a0 Mr. Aguilar also announced the heads of some of the committees and told everyone of the creation of a historical committee that will dedicate their efforts in gathering information about the club\u2019s origins.\u00a0 The club dates back to 1950 when a small group got together to find a place for Latinos to gather and socialize.<br \/>\n\u201cI saw signs that said \u2018no Mexicans allowed,\u2019\u201d said John Carrillo of the reasons why such a club was created in the first place.<br \/>\nMr. Carrillo is the son of one of the founding members and is part of the Historical Committee along with Ralph Rios who is a founding member.\u00a0 Even though it was rough for the founding members, they moved forward or \u201cadelante\u201d as their motto says.<br \/>\nRalph Rios spoke as well and talked about the club government and said \u201cinstead of more laws and bylaws, we need more character.\u201d<br \/>\nMr. Rios said how in the first laws and bylaws God was not mentioned but that now God is mentioned all throughout the bylaws.\u00a0 \u201cWithout him, we can\u2019t move adelante,\u201d said Mr. Rios.<br \/>\nHe told of the early days of the club when a handshake stood for your word.
