The League of United Latin American Citizens of Iowa\u2019s Council 10 will host two upcoming caucus training events as part of the state council\u2019s Latino Vote Iowa Presidential Caucus Campaign.<\/p>\n

Council 10 and QC Next Up will host a caucus informational session from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Los Portales Restaurant, 1012 E. Kimberly Road in Davenport. This is a free, nonpartisan event that will provide information about both the Democratic and Republican-style caucuses.<\/p>

LULAC officials also will distribute information about voting and conduct a \u201cmock caucus\u201d in which participants can get hands-on experience about how the caucuses work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to encourage our people to attend and become involved in the political process,\u201d said Maria Bribriesco, Deputy State Director for LULAC of Iowa and a field staff member for the Latino Vote Iowa campaign. \u201cLatino issues are American issues. We care about education, the economy, the environment, national security, healthcare and more. The only way our voice will be heard is if we participate in the Iowa Caucuses and vote on Election Day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

LULAC wants to encourage 10,000 to 20,000 Latinos to participate in the caucuses. About 200,000 Iowans are expected to participate in the 2016 Iowa Caucuses, both the Democratic and Republican caucuses.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bribriesco said trainings will be informal and all Scott County residents are welcome to attend. There will be a free taco bar for participants. LULAC is a nonpartisan organization.<\/p>

There will be a second mock caucus training on Dec. 7 at the Rogalski Center at St. Ambrose University, 518 W. Locust St. LULAC of Iowa\u2019s collegiate council will co-host the event, along with Council 10 and the American Association of University Women. St. Ambrose students, along with local high school juniors and seniors are invited to attend, as the event is directed toward young voters. Food and beverage will be provided.<\/p>\n

In January, there will then be a roundtable discussion for the top issues that were identified during the mock caucus events. More information will be released at a later day.<\/span><\/p>
