line-height: 1.3em;\">November is the month of the Catrinas and Sugar Skulls, the traditional decorations with the eye-catching yellow colored Cempas\u00fachil flowers, the time where the scent of Copal fills the air along with the taste of Tamales, Pan de Muerto, sliced pumpkin, sweet corn gruel and purple corn. \u00a0It\u2019s the tradition that identifies what\u2019s close to us and what\u2019s ours, keeping the memories of our loved ones who\u2019ve gone to Mictlan, or if desired, they\u2019ve taken their journey to the stars. \u00a0It\u2019s a celebration that unites distant pre-Hispanic cults, with religious catholic elements brought from Spain during the conquest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nowadays, this celebration takes place in almost every part of Mexico with some variations, depending on each region characterizing themselves with the elements of this festivity. \u00a0Some of the most famous offerings come from Janitzio, Tzintzuntzan, Mixquic, Mitla, Xochimilco and Papantla, among others.<\/p><div id=\"holaa-1330327081\" class=\"holaa-ad-inside-articles-2\" style=\"margin-top: 2px;margin-bottom: 2px;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><div class=\"holaa-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesperformingarts.org\/whats-on\/series\/summerarts\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" aria-label=\"HI-SummerSeries-300&#215;250-SP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/HI-SummerSeries-300x250-SP.jpg\" alt=\"\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div><br style=\"clear: both; display: block; float: none;\"\/>\n<p>In some villages in the Mexican states of Guanajuato and Michoac\u00e1n the offerings that are placed on the altars of \u201cLittle Angels\u201d; as they are known for those who passed away as children, basically consist of skulls, sheep, chickens, fruit baskets and other figurines made by craftsmen that are made of sugar dough, gelatin, and lemon juice, better known as Alfe\u00f1iques. \u00a0Other things that are placed on altars include masks and carton Catrinas (skeleton), paper cutouts, food and toys, as it is accustomed in the village of Cortazar, former Otom\u00ed settlement who\u2019s name used to be Degno-Yahhiu, which means place of Amoles, which comes from the Nahuatl word amolli which is a sort of tuber used by the Aztecs as a detergent, and that can be found in this region. \u00a0It is located at the bottom of the Culiac\u00e1n hill on the banks of Laja River located south of the State of Guanajuato.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Traditional Offering Elements:<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright size-full wp-image-3186\" src=\"http:\/\/166.62.41.2\/~holaamericanews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DofD%2001.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" align=\"right\" width=\"300\" height=\"561\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cempasuchil Flowers (Orange Marigold):<\/strong> they come in yellow and fade into orange \u00a0and are used to set a \u201cpath\u201d for souls. \u00a0\u201cFlores de Nube\u201d are used on the altars of \u201cAngels\u201d or little children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Candles:<\/strong> the candles light up the altar, showing the exact location of where the deceased\u2019s loved ones await for them.<\/p><div id=\"holaa-2380347083\" class=\"holaa-ad-inside-articles\" style=\"margin-top: 2px;margin-bottom: 2px;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><div class=\"holaa-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/hhs.iowa.gov\/health-prevention\/diabetes-prevention-management\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Diabetes Spanish 300&#215;250\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Diabetes-Spanish-300x250-2.jpg\" alt=\"\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div><br style=\"clear: both;
