DES MOINES, IA \u2013 Iowa\u2019s Latino Heritage Festival<\/strong><\/a> will kick off with an opening ceremonies event, where key individuals including scholarship recipients and the festival\u2019s sponsors will be recognized.<\/p>\n

Ceremonies will begin at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 26 on the main stage. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. that day and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 27.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to thank our sponsors for their commitment to the festival, because without them we would not be able to host this amazing cultural event for our community,\u201d said Joe Gonzalez, executive director of Latino Resources Inc., the umbrella organization that oversees the festival.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

New this year is a VIP hospitality tent for local elected officials and event sponsors. There will be different cultural foods and live music.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity to network and mingle and have a good time,\u201d said Brenda Phongsavanh, a member of the Latino Resources Board.<\/p>\n

The festival takes place on the Walnut Street and Court Avenue bridges in downtown. It includes various musical entertainment, dancers, martial arts performers, a children\u2019s area, Latin American foods, booths about the countries represented at the festival and more.<\/p>
