Iowa\u2019s Latino Heritage Festival on Thursday received a $15,000 Polk County Community Development Grant.<\/p>\n

The Polk County Supervisors presented the grant to Joe Gonzalez, director of Latino Resources Inc., the nonprofit group that oversees the festival.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cWe\u2019d like to thank the Supervisors for their support,\u201d Gonzalez said. \u201cIt\u2019s with generosity such as theirs that we\u2019re able to hold this event to celebrate the Latino community in Iowa.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Polk County Supervisors Chairwoman Angela Connolly said: \u201cThe Latino Heritage Festival is an important event in our community, and the Board of Supervisors is happy to help promote cultural diversity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"This year\u2019s Latino Heritage Festival is Sept. 26 and 27 on the Walnut and Locust streets bridges in downtown Des Moines. It has grown to become one of the most widely attended cultural events in Iowa, with almost 50,000 people attending the two-day festival.<\/span><\/p>\n

The festival includes various musical entertainment, dancers, martial arts performers, a children\u2019s area, Latin American foods, booths about the countries represented at the festival and more.<\/span><\/p>
