Later the Facebook Group was created. Now Dream Iowa is more than a Facebook page with more than 300 followers and supporter base growing every day. It is a place where DREAMers, supporters of immigration and others can come together and share information, encouragement, support and discussion.<\/p>\n<p>  <!--more-->  <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Monica Reyes, DACA recipient, student at the University of Northern Iowa and activist, along with her sister founded DREAM Iowa.<\/p><div id=\"holaa-422007868\" class=\"holaa-ad-inside-articles-2\" style=\"margin-top: 2px;margin-bottom: 2px;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><div class=\"holaa-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.desmoinesperformingarts.org\/whats-on\/series\/summerarts\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" aria-label=\"HI-SummerSeries-300&#215;250-SP\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/HI-SummerSeries-300x250-SP.jpg\" alt=\"\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div><br style=\"clear: both; display: block; float: none;\"\/>\n<p>\u201cWe started it as a Facebook group called Iowa Dreamers in which people can ask questions about the application process, get support from our community, ask for trustworthy lawyers, find people to carpool to the USCIS office in Des Moines and learn about their rights,\u201d Reyes explained.<\/p>\n<p>With the passing of the time, DREAM Iowa turned into a group that advocates for comprehensive immigration reform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe advocate for immigrant rights by being the voice for those who remain voiceless out of fear of being deported from the country they call their home,\u201d Reyes said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to speaking for those who remain in the shadows DREAM Iowa also works to empower immigrants through education about immigration policies, their rights and sharing stories of DREAMers that had achieved success in spite of continuing being undocumented.<\/p><div id=\"holaa-1475873282\" class=\"holaa-ad-inside-articles\" style=\"margin-top: 2px;margin-bottom: 2px;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><div class=\"holaa-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/hhs.iowa.gov\/health-prevention\/diabetes-prevention-management\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Diabetes Spanish 300&#215;250\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Diabetes-Spanish-300x250-2.jpg\" alt=\"\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div><br style=\"clear: both; display: block; float: none;\"\/>\n<p>Supporting, educating and encouraging immigrants are not the only things that DREAM Iowa does. And nowadays one does not be to always have to be physically present somewhere to be able to voice out their concerns. This bill would grant legal status to undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children and attended school here.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The term DREAMer took its name from the bill in congress<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is DACA?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), President Obama\u2019s deportation deferral program for DREAMers\u2013undocumented young people brought to the United States as children<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.1599998474121px; line-height: 1.3em;\">Under DACA, immigrants who came to the United States before turning 16, pass a background check, and meet certain other requirements (including an education requirement), can come forward and apply for temporary but renewable protection from deportation as well as work authorization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12.1599998474121px; line-height: 1.3em;\">According to the latest statistics from United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the government agency housed within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that is administering DACA, nearly 750,000 immigrants have applied for DACA and over 660,000 have received it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"holaa-2741717377\" class=\"holaa-after-content\" style=\"margin-top: 2px;margin-bottom: 2px;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><div class=\"holaa-adlabel\">Advertisements<\/div><a data-no-instant=\"1\" href=\"https:\/\/progressiowa.org\/2023\/08\/take-action-with-progress-iowa\/?utm_source=news&#038;utm_medium=site&#038;utm_campaign=2026&#038;utm_id=News\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"a2t-link\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Progress Iowa Spanish 300&#215;250\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holaamericanews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Progress-Iowa-Spanish-300x250-1.png\" alt=\"\"  width=\"300\" height=\"250\"  style=\"display: inline-block;\" \/><\/a><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It started as an idea.
