May is here and in the past years people seem to celebrate Cinco de Mayo a lot more than before. Aside the fact that Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence day, but rather celebration of victory of Mexican Army over French in a battle of Puebla, Cinco de Mayo in the United States is turning into a day when Mexican culture is celebrated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After the race there will be Post Race Fiesta with music by the band formerly known as Los Mocambos starting at 10:00 AM, but there is more, stick around to enjoy traditional Mexican dances performed by children from the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico at 12:00 PM and if you are hungry participate at the Annual Taco Eating Contest at 2:00 PM. Another great way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and support local kids is Glenview Mariachi Band Fundraiser on Tuesday May 5th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Glenview Middle School. There will be a performance by the Glenview Youth Mariachi Band and DJ Guerrero. There will a be taco dinner sale . The cost of the dinner is $5 for a meal that includes 2 tacos, beans, rice, drink and tortilla chips. Glenview Middle School located at 3100 7 th Street, East Moline, IL.\u00a0<\/p>

\u25baAnd that evening the Sauk Valley Area Chamber of Commerce\u2019s Hispanic Business Leaders Committee will be offering a presentation given by Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch at Centennial Auditorium in Sterling, Illinois. Kickbusch has ties to the area as her father was employed at Northwestern Steel and Wire and her family lived in Sterling during the 1950\u2019s. Known as \u201cSilver City,\u201d the boxcar settlement was an early home for Kickbusch\u2019s parents and a source of inspiration for her visionary leadership.\u00a0<\/p>\n
