Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D) IL -17 went shopping at La Monarca grocery store in Downtown East Moline as part of her Supermarket Saturdays where she meets with local shoppers and talks with them about issues that they would like her to address both locally and in Washington DC. \u00a0While at La Monarca, Rep Bustos looked at Chespirito inspired piggy banks as she picked out some pan dulce. \u00a0She filled her cart with traditional favorites like Jarritos soft drinks, Abuelita Chocolate, and some cajeta too.<\/p>\n

\u00a0While shopping she met with college student Hector Varela and discussed internship opportunities available to students within her office. \u00a0She congratulated Marina and Jesus Varela for having had 2 sons earn the title of Youth of the Year for the Boys and Girls Club of the Mississippi Valley. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Marina Varela of Moline said that she felt very comfortable talking with Rep Bustos in front of the \u201celote stand\u201d while she was with her family. \u00a0\u201cCheri talked with us and not down to us. \u00a0The way she talked with me, my husband and my son showed us that she genuinely cared to know who we were and what was on our mind.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A cashier told Rep Bustos that immigration fees are very expensive and that there are not enough local resources to help support applicants with their paperwork and costs. Rep. Bustos made it clear that she and her office are here to help. \u00a0She passed out business cards with contacts of people in the District Offices of Rock Island that could help them here locally. \u00a0She encouraged her and others to please visit or call the office.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brandon Anderson of East Moline said, \u201cRep Bustos was very friendly and approachable. \u00a0It is good to see her getting out in the community and shopping at diverse local businesses. \u201c \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
