Many artists see the world differently than the rest of us.\u00a0 \"tego_calderon\"<\/a>Tego Calderon is one of those artists that see things differently.\u00a0 Although his bank account is a lot bigger since his career took off these last few years, he has not let his success get to his head. Tego is an individual who has an authentic passion for his craft and feels the need to do a quality job for his fans.\u00a0 His latest production titled \u201cThe Underdog\u201d reflects that passion for creating an album of the same quality or better than his first album \u201cEl Abayarde\u201d, which was a total hit. After listening to this album, many who consider Tego a reggaeton artist will understand why it bothers him to be classified as that, he prefers to be considered an artist. \u201cI think it\u2019s been quite a groundbreaking album, something new for the Hispanic movement, it\u2019s not only hip hop, there\u2019s a lot more,\u201d says Tego about his new album.\u00a0 In this album you\u2019ll find a broad variety of musical genres for a creation that only Tego can pull off.\u00a0 Rhythm & Blues, Salsa, Reggae, Hip Hop, Reggaeton, Bomba and Plena are sounds that can be heard and mixed with each other, creating a fusion along with Tego\u2019s message, that\u2019s ahead of its time.\u00a0 That\u2019s exactly what Tego wanted to do with \u201cThe Underdog.\u201d\u00a0 He believes reggaeton has been \u201cstuck\u201d and says that his audience is a more mature one that \u201cdoesn\u2019t have many young people, kids.\u201d \u201cMy message has to be much more complete, because there\u2019s people who are waiting for Tego\u2019s message, there\u2019s people who are waiting for hip hop, there\u2019s people who are waiting for what\u2019s different, that\u2019s the people I do music for,\u201d says Tego.
\nThat\u2019s how Tego sees things, and his song \u201cVeo, Veo\u201d he talks about all the bad he sees around the world and on his home island of Puerto Rico.\u00a0 \u201cIn the poor neighborhoods is where drugs are sold.\u00a0 How did they get here?\u00a0 Who brought them?\u00a0 We don\u2019t know, we don\u2019t even have boats.\u201d\u00a0 Even President Bush doesn\u2019t escape his criticism, \u201cyou couldn\u2019t handle Osama, you took it out on Sadam\u2026many of your people have fallen, mothers without their children\u2026\u201d
\nThose types of lyrics and messages are what distinguish this album and Tego from others of his fellow rappers or reggaetoneros who for the most part talk about bling, bling and clubbing.\u00a0 His favorite song on this album is \u201cA Mi Papa\u201d which is a personal letter to his deceased father that got a great response.
\n\u201cIt took me by surprise, it\u2019s a real personal song that I made with no intentions of being liked, but the people felt it,\u201d says Tego.\u00a0 He hopes it will be the album\u2019s next single, after the soon to premier reggae song titled \u201cChillin\u201d, a collaboration with Don Omar.
\nFor now Tego keeps working on other future projects.\u00a0 The first is a hip hop album for his partner Chino Nino, who excluding Tego, is the first artist to come out of his label Jiggiri Records.
\nOn March of 2007, Tego will have a key role in a film by director John Singleton titled \u201cIllegal Tender\u201d.\u00a0 Tego will also be featured on the soundtrack to the movie.
\n\u201cI\u2019m really excited about that because I enjoyed the experience and I want to keep acting.\u00a0 But I hope that the people will like it and I hope they give it a positive response because I really enjoyed the experience,\u201d said Tego.
