LULAC Council #10 Davenport, Iowa will be holding its 55th annual Fiesta Saturday September 13, 2014.
LULAC\u2019s Fiesta is a night rich in family traditions, culture and celebration. This event commemorates the declaration of Independence of Mexico from Spain in 1810 as well as Hispanic Heritage Month.\u00a0 One of the highlights of this celebration is the tradition of the crowning of the LULAC Queen.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Winning the crown means representing LULAC at parades and other community events. The candidates sell raffle tickets and the one with the most tickets sold wins the crown. All proceeds from the ticket sales go toward the LULAC Scholarship Fund
\u201cThis is a very important part of our annual scholarship fundraising effort. For many years the Queen contest has helped sustain the scholarship program\u201d said Mike Reyes, president of LULAC Davenport.
To date the Davenport Council has awarded over $415,000 to approximately 722 area students.\u00a0
Raising funds for scholarships is the main objective of the LULAC Queen contest but for many of the participants throughout the years it is a family custom.

The 2013 LULAC Queen, Assata Caldwell, a student currently attending Iowa State University will pass her title to the new 2014 LULAC Fiesta Queen.

The LULAC Council #10 Davenport 55th annual Fiesta will be Saturday September 13, 2014. From 4:00 pm to 11 pm with entertainment from Mariachi Campiranos from Peoria, IL and the QC\u2019s own Los Mocambos.
