DES MOINES- On March 9th at the Olmsted Center of Drake University, Latinas\/Latinos al \u00c9xito (Al \u00c9xito) will unveil their new developed brand & website. The event will be in conjunction with the Drake Community Press launch of the book “The Ones I Bring With Me: Iowa\u2019s Young Latinas on Identity, Education, and Success”, a compilation of stories about Latino women growing in Iowa, their challenges and successes.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the creativity and generous spirit of AIGA Iowa – Design Assign, Latinas\/Latinos al \u00c9xito has a new brand \u2013 Al \u00c9xito. Al \u00c9xito is a vibrant and Global brand. At the same time the organization Al \u00c9xito developed its new website that will be more functional for the organization. The website will also be presented at the event.<\/p>

Drake Community Press selected Latinas\/Latinos al \u00c9xito to be highlighted in their first book. After a year of hard work the book: “The Ones I Bring With Me: Iowa\u2019s Young Latinas on Identity, Education, and Success” is ready. Drake Service Learning and Carol Spaulding Kruse (Zacary\u2019s Bridge) oversaw the creation of the book. Students interviewed Latinas from many areas, from very rural places to the ones who live in Des Moines Metro area. The final touch was given by Maria Hinojosa, (NPR\/NPTV), who wrote a beautiful and moving introduction to the book.<\/p>\n

The event will run from 9:00AM to 4:00 PM and will include:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2022 9:00 -11:00 AM – Professional Development “Declaring Voice” Sponsored by American Association of University Women. Guess speaker will be Ana Lilia Soto. Registration is $30.00 for non Al \u00c9xito Mentors. Breakfast and Lunch will be provided.<\/p>\n

\u2022 1:00 \u2013 4:00PM – \u00a1Celebrando Al \u00c9xito! with keynote speaker Lieutenant Colonel Consuelo Kickbusch. Karin Stein will direct the\"\" entertainment.<\/p>

Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch is a renowned, charismatic, passionate and influential speaker with a mission to empower the next generation of leaders.<\/p>\n

Born and raised along the border in a small barrio in Laredo, Texas, Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch is all too familiar with the challenges of poverty, discrimination and illiteracy. Although she grew up without material wealth, Consuelo was taught by her immigrant parents that she was rich in culture, tradition, values and faith.<\/p>

After graduating from Hardin Simmons University, Consuelo entered the U.S. Army as an officer and served for two decades. During that time, she broke barriers and set records in the military where she became the highest-ranking Hispanic woman in the Combat Support Field of the U.S. Army.<\/p>\n

A small-press publisher, the Community Press is a two-year curriculum based community engagement experience that includes over 100 student and faculty collaborators from several academic disciplines. The Press produces attractive full-color, illustrated editions serving a community readership on issues of concern to Iowans; partners with Iowa organizations to promote positive interaction and community betterment; and provides students with practical knowledge of book editing and production with a cross-disciplinary and collaborative focus.<\/p>\n
