DES MOINES \u2013 Joe Henry, a candidate for the Ward 4 Des Moines City Council seat, said tonight that he will still remain involved with civic organizations and volunteer efforts that help the community and his ward.<\/p>\n

“I will continue to do the work I\u2019ve always done to help others and better our community,” Henry said. “I believe I can still do great things for our ward through my professional career and volunteer efforts.<\/p>

“I would like to thank my family, my friends and all of our volunteers for all of the work they did for my campaign,” he said.<\/p>\n

Henry will play a role in the redevelopment of the former Fort Des Moines facility into a cultural events center on behalf of his client who is the seller of the property.<\/p>\n

Henry also will continue in his position as state director of the Iowa League of United Latin American Citizens, and as a member of the Des Moines Civil Service Commission. He also serves on the income committee for the United Way of Central Iowa, as a board member of the Young Women\u2019s Resource Center, as a member of the citizens\u2019 budget advisory committee for Des Moines Public Schools, is president of Save & Support Our Schools, and serves on the Grievance Board for the Iowa Supreme Court. He also is part of the Des Moines South-Side Revitalization Partnership and the Southwest Ninth Street Merchants Committee.<\/p>\n

Henry said he was proud of the race his campaign ran, thankful for those who supported him, including family, friends and volunteers, and he enjoyed meeting many voters during the process.<\/p>

“I\u2019d like to congratulate Mr. Gatto on his win,” Henry said. “The city faces many critical budget issues in the future, and I hope he is up to the challenge.”<\/p>\n
