MILAN<\/span>, IL<\/span> \u2013 Quad Cities entrepreneur Tom Terronez is going to the Ivy League, thanks to a scholarship arrangement between Group O CEO Gregg Ontiveros and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.<\/span><\/p>\n

Terronez, 33, is the founder and president of Terrostar (<\/span>www.terrostar.com<\/span><\/a><\/span>), a Bettendorf, IA-based strategic marketing firm, and Medix Dental (<\/span>www.medixdental.com<\/span><\/a><\/span>), a technology and consulting provider to the dental industry.\u00a0 As part of the scholarship, he will attend an intensive week-long program for minority business owners at Dartmouth\u2019s Tuck School of Business in Hanover, NH.<\/span><\/p>

Ontiveros received the scholarship \u2013 which is underwritten by Dartmouth and the Nina Vaca Foundation \u2013 when he was recognized as the 2012 Hispanic Businessman of the Year by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at its annual conference last September.\u00a0 Rather than accept the scholarship directly, however, Ontiveros selected Terronez as a local Hispanic business owner who could benefit from the knowledge and training provided through the Dartmouth program.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been fortunate to have received some great opportunities to help further the growth of my own business and realized that this was a chance to pay that forward,\u201d said Ontiveros.\u00a0 \u201cBy helping minority entrepreneurs like Tom advance their businesses, I believe that our entire community will benefit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Terronez is already off to a good start.\u00a0 His local businesses employ __ and work with a number of regional and national clients.\u00a0 Terrostar was also recognized May 15 by the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce as a finalist for the Small Business Excellence Award.<\/span><\/p>\n

Like Ontiveros, Terronez has been active in the local community.\u00a0 He is a current or past board member and active supporter of a variety of organizations, including the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce, IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union, Bettendorf Library Foundation and the Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center.<\/span><\/p>
