DAVENPORT, Iowa — As a child on his grandfather\u2019s farm in Mexico, Cesar Millan grew up working with animals.\u00a0 He had a special and natural way with dogs and as a child, he was called el perrero, \u201cthe dog boy.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Millan has turned his boyhood interest in dogs into a media empire of television, best-selling books, and appearances like the one he will make in Davenport on Friday, March 22.<\/p>

Millan will share his remarkable success story when he appears in Davenport on March 22 at a fundraising event for Gilda\u2019s Club of the Quad Cities.\u00a0 Gilda\u2019s Club of the Quad Cities provides support, education and hope to all people affected by cancer.<\/p>\n

The event will be held at the Davenport River Center with lunch at noon.\u00a0 Tickets are $50 each or $400 for a table of eight.\u00a0 To purchase tickets, call Gilda\u2019s Club at (563) 326-7504.\u00a0 All proceeds will benefit Gilda\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n

Genesis Cancer Care Institute in Davenport provided financial support to bring Millan to the Quad Cities.<\/p>\n

Millan crossed into the United States illegally from Mexico when he was 21.\u00a0 He spoke no English and did not know anyone in the U.S., but he already had a gift for handling and training dogs.\u00a0 He worked in a dog grooming store, worked with \u201cproblem\u201d dogs and created a following with his clients.\u00a0 He created a dog training center in Los Angeles in 2002.<\/p>

Millan is best known for his television series The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan. The program is broadcast in more than 80 countries.<\/p>\n

Millan is the author of three best-selling books, including Cesar\u2019s Way, which has sold more than two million copies in the U.S. and is in print in 14 other countries.<\/p>
