WVIK, at 90.3 FM, will debut a new radio program, Latino USA<\/i>. It will begin airing Wednesdays at 7 p.m. on WVIK beginning January 2.<\/p>\n

Latino USA<\/i>, the radio journal of news and culture, is the only nationally distributed English-language radio program produced from a Latino perspective. It combines high-quality news, cultural and public affairs journalism with compelling sound to bring a rich understanding to a wide spectrum of listeners.<\/p>

Jay Pearce, WVIK\u2019s general manager, said, \u201cBringing Latino USA to the Quad Cities is one way WVIK is becoming more involved with issues surrounding an increasing Hispanic population.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pearce added, \u201cWe have also recently joined the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as a way of making important contacts so we can become more aware of the needs of Latinos in our community and explore new partnerships.\u201d<\/p>\n

Latino influences and contributions continue to have an increasingly important impact on the evolving identity, life and reality of the United States<\/st1:place><\/st1:country-region> and the Quad Cities community. Latino USA<\/i> acts as a forum for connections and reflects the experience of a changing population from a Latino viewpoint.<\/p>\n

Maria Hinojosa has been the host of National Public Radio\u2019s Latino USA<\/i> since its inception. She has been the senior correspondent for the acclaimed NOW<\/i> on PBS and anchors the Emmy Award-winning One on One with Maria Hinojosa<\/i> from WGBH\/La Plaza. She spent eight years as the Urban Affairs Correspondent for CNN, and before that worked as a reporter for NPR News in New York<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>

Latino USA<\/i> has gained a loyal audience and won more than a dozen prestigious national awards, including a Scripps Howard Foundation National Journalism Award and awards from the communications industry for journalistic and production excellence.<\/p>\n

WVIK is the NPR  station for the Quad-Cities. WVIK is owned by Augustana<\/st1:placename> College<\/st1:placetype>, and its studios are located on Augustana\u2019s campus in Rock Island<\/st1:place><\/st1:city>. It broadcasts across eastern Iowa<\/st1:state> and northwestern Illinois<\/st1:state>, and at 95.9 FM in Dubuque<\/st1:city>, Iowa<\/st1:state> and a small portion of southwest Wisconsin<\/st1:place><\/st1:state>.<\/p>
