Like any energetic 10-year old Matthew McLean was placed into ice skating classes in preparation for becoming a hockey player. But on the rink<\/p>\n

McLean was determined to attempt the tricks and jumping around that a figure skater could be seen doing. And that\u2019s where his passion for figure skating began.<\/p>

Today the Canadian native takes part in the Disney On Ice Production; Disney On Ice<\/i> celebrates 100 Years of Magic<\/i>. The performer says he is ecstatic to bring the show to the Quad Cities, \u201cYou can expect to see a lot of your favorite Disney characters. It\u2019s a fun show for everybody!\u201d<\/p>\n

The show features classic characters such as Mickey and Minnie, to the Disney Princesses, a superb act by the Lion King and much more. McLean plays John Smith in the production alongside Pocahontas, \u201cIt is by far my favorite role so far, I\u2019m really enjoying myself and learning the pair side of skating.\u201d<\/p>\n

Working on skate productions with Disney came suddenly for McLean only a few years ago, \u201cA friend called me one day and I decided to try, and well after doing one show it just kept turning into another and another\u201d. The figure skater was living in Mexico as a coach giving skate classes, and in return he asked for Spanish lessons.<\/p>\n

While he is very much enjoying his time with Disney and partaking in other fun characters such as Woody from Toy Story, McLean does see himself returning to Mexico in the near future. Teaching for seven months in Puebla truly captivated him, \u201cI\u2019d like to go back to the city and help develop the skating community out there.\u201d<\/p>

He recalls that his decision is not solely about skating but with his Canadian background he feels a sense of comfort in the Mexican community as well, \u201cThe culture and the family values are very strong, and there are very warm people, and I\u2019ve translated that into my culture.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ultimately as a performer he always wants families and children to enjoy the moments that figure skating can bring to life.<\/p>
