With all the focus on the Olympics this past week, a few Quad Citiens took to the streets in Davenport and went on a run last Saturday morning. <\/p>\n

18, 138 people to be exact, and it was no ordinary morning jog.<\/p>

The Quad City Times Bix 7 is now in the books and the weather couldn\u2019t have been any better.  With record highs the past few months and with the first Bix at 6 training run being canceled due to a heat advisory, there was some talk about how hot the actual race day would be.  We couldn\u2019t have been more wrong as the temperature was in the lower 70\u2019s for most of the race, and if you are a runner like myself, that is perfect running weather. <\/p>\n

Local runner, John Sierra didn\u2019t have a lot of time to train for this year\u2019s Bix, but still beat his time from last year.  \u201cMy training was very brief this year due to my work schedule, working long hours and then when I got off, it was still hot out.  I could only practice twice before the actual race,\u201d said Sierra. \u201cThe weather was great this year especially compared to last year. This was my second year running the Bix and I shaved off over 9 minutes compared to my time last year.\u201d <\/p>\n

For some runners in the Quad Cities, the Bix 7 is the end goal for their summer running, but for many others, Sierra included, it is used for something even bigger.  \u201cI started training at the end of this week for my first marathon,\u201d said Sierra.  \u201cI\u2019m a little nervous and excited all at once.\u201d  With the Quad City Marathon only nine weeks away, the 7 miles from the Bix will seem so short when challenged with 13.1 or 26.2 miles that day.  One thing is for sure, whether you ran, jogged, or walked at this year\u2019s Bix 7, everyone was a gold medal winner that morning.  \u201cI\u2019ve been running for three years now,\u201d said Sierra.  \u201cThe Bix is by far my favorite!\u201d<\/p>\n
