In what was proclaimed to be the “Biggest Heavyweight Match in UFC history” and on its 15th year anniversary, Randy “The Natural” Couture put his championship belt on the line against UFC newcomer but a familiar face to most, 265 pounder Brock Lesner.  Those who though that Couture would dominate Lesner on the ground, may have forgotten that Lesner was the 2000 NCAA Heavyweight champion at the University of Minnesota.  Minnesota is in a part of the Big 10 which includes University of Illinois and Iowa wrestling teams.

Lesner dominated the WWE in 2002, and became the youngest World Heavyweight Champion after his win over the biggest name the company, The Rock. After pro wrestling, he pursued a career with the Minnesota Vikings but was the last player to be cut before the season.<\/p>\n

He joined the UFC in 2006 and after only 3 fights, one of which he dismantled Heath Herring, earned his shot to fight Randy Couture who had not fought since August of 2007 against Gabriel Gonzaga. 
Couture kept the fight standing even after the monstrous take down attempts and as the two exchanged Randy landed numerous shots that barely looked like they bothered Lesner.  That was until Randy landed a huge knee to Brock’s face making it bleed instantly.  A huge right hand landed behind the ear, dropping Couture as a barrage of hammer fists rained down until Mario Yamasaki stepped in to stop it at 3:07 in the third.  <\/p>

Brock Lesner had beat the legend Randy Couture and became the UFC Heavyweight champion.  The winner of Noguiera and Mir will fight Lesner for the sole ownership of the belt.  Wanting to prove that he is a legitimate ultimate fighter, dethroning Randy Couture didn’t hurt the cause. <\/p>\n
