Fifteen years since the first Viva Quad Cities Fiesta took place along the Mississippi River, the fiesta returned to Moline, where it first began.  This time the fiesta was at Bass Street Landing in front of Stony Creek Inn, but as always near the river and with large crowds each day enjoying the music, food and colors of the Hispanic culture in this event which began on Friday, Sept. 6 and continued on to Saturday.

This year the organization invited Black Hawk College students for a presentation of the flags of Latin America which then decorated the stage so that Brian Greene and Sharon Buckingham, the children of Cristina Greene who passed away this year and had been a big help to the organization, accepted on their mother’s behalf the title of Fiesta Grand Marshall.<\/p>\n

The fiesta continues with a Zumba presentation that got a large crowd on their feet on the dance area, moving to the contagious Latin rhythms while burning a few calories. The Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico performed as did Mariachi Jalisco and Los Mocambos.<\/p>

On Friday, a little rain scared off some but after a few minutes the party was still going on.  More rain fell then next night but many endured a few drops and enjoyed music from Banda Aires de Guanajuato.  The day’s entertainment included dances from Brazil, Bolivia, and Mexico, mariachi music and DJ music from Sonido Estrella. On Saturday area students were awarded scholarships during a special scholarship presentation. <\/p>\n
