No es dif\u00edcil para los extranjeros interpretar que los esqueletos, las calaveras de az\u00facar y la borrachera en general son una falta de respeto a los muertos y una pena por las p\u00e9rdidas humanas. Nada m\u00e1s lejos de la realidad. Para aquellos acostumbrados a estar callados, la ropa formal, un sacerdote solemne, y la ausencia de ni\u00f1os como corresponde en los entierros, este festival va en contra de la decencia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Flores brillantes, m\u00fasica fuerte, decoraciones coloridas y dulces de temporada son caracter\u00edsticos de cualquier cementerio popular de M\u00e9xico en los dos primeros d\u00edas de noviembre. Las entradas a los cementerios se han convertido en la norma. No hay un solo D\u00eda de los Muertos, sino dos: El D\u00eda de los Muertos Peque\u00f1os, para los ni\u00f1os, el 1 de noviembre, y el D\u00eda de los Muertos Adultos, el 2 de noviembre.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los elementos centrales de la fiesta son las visitas familiares para decorar las tumbas donde yacen sus ancestros, y ofrecer comida, bebida y altares temporales. Lo esencial de la fiesta es que los esp\u00edritus de los muertos en estas fechas pueden volver del m\u00e1s all\u00e1 para visitarlos, si los vivos facilitan esta comuni\u00f3n con p\u00e9talos de Xempaxochitl (flor de cal\u00e9ndula) que apuntan en direcci\u00f3n a la casa desde la tumba. Los altares y las tumbas tambi\u00e9n tienen velas para iluminar el camino, agua para que beban los muertos y sal para el viaje.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">La tradici\u00f3n de celebrar a los muertos es b\u00e1sicamente un concepto prehisp\u00e1nico. Es ampliamente conocido que los mexicas (antiguos ind\u00edgenas mexicanos) celebraban una fiesta llamada: &#8220;Mixailhuitontli&#8221; en honor a los ni\u00f1os muertos, y &#8220;Mixailhuitl&#8221; en honor a los muertos adultos. Pero antes de la conquista espa\u00f1ola, estas fiestas no se celebraban a principios de noviembre, sino a mediados de a\u00f1o. Los espa\u00f1oles las hicieron coincidir con las fiestas cat\u00f3licas del D\u00eda de Todos los Santos y del D\u00eda del Alma, que datan de la Edad Media. Pero en M\u00e9xico el D\u00eda de Todos los Santos es secundario a la fiesta prehisp\u00e1nica.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incluso en <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Andr%C3%A9s_M%C3%ADxquic\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mixquic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, que es s\u00f3lo una gran fiesta contaminada por el comercialismo, pusieron un perro de arcilla en el altar, una clara referencia a la costumbre de la pre-conquista de matar a un perro e incinerarlo con el cuerpo del difunto para ayudarlo en su camino. El espect\u00e1culo urbano se ha vuelto interesante no tanto por sus ra\u00edces prehisp\u00e1nicas, sino m\u00e1s bien porque ahora es una parte importante de la identidad de M\u00e9xico, con la promoci\u00f3n del D\u00eda de los Muertos como una resistencia a la incursi\u00f3n de la cultura estadounidense, como el Halloween. Inevitablemente el Halloween ha llegado a M\u00e9xico a trav\u00e9s de los Estados Unidos, donde la petici\u00f3n de una &#8220;calaverita&#8221; se ha transformado en &#8220;Trick or treat&#8221; disfrazando a los ni\u00f1os de brujos, vampiros o momias.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hoy en d\u00eda estas tradiciones del D\u00eda de los Muertos son recordadas por los mexicanos que viven en los Estados Unidos, pero se celebran como obras de arte en lugares como el Museo de Arte Figge y el Centro de Arte Des Moines en la capital de Iowa.
