Ignacio Gonzalez, organizer of the Baile del Sol, said he started the annual event three years ago because he wanted something that was not in the Quad City area. “I just thought of the idea of an event for the kids, a family event, for the adults. I want authentic Mexican music and an authentic Mexican environment,” he said.

“Nacho”, as everybody calls him, came from Chicago and wanted a festival similar to the ones he remembered in the Windy City, here in this area. The event will have more vendors than a year ago and there will be a country western clothing vendor, goody bags and activities for the children. Of course, an authentic Mexican festival is not complete without a band and dancing. “The main thing everyone wants to see is the band and Sabor Latino from Sterling will be performing,” he said.
He thanked his wife, the volunteers and the sponsors because without them, nothing could be done.  Nacho is the owner and operator of Los Cuates Cantina, 821 15thAve., in downtown East Moline. <\/p>\n

Like the previous years, el Baile del Sol takes place right in front of his establishment; starting at 5 p.m. until midnight on Saturday, July 26.  There will be bands, food, a bounce house, piñatas, and other kid’s activities.  Admission is free for kids 12 and under and $5 for adults. Proceeds from the event go to the East Moline’s Park Board and Garfield Park.<\/p>

As for the future, Nacho wants to continue organizing the event, “I’m hoping to do it again, make it a tradition,” he said. <\/p>\n
