The Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico presented their complete dance program of traditional dances from Mexico for their Mexican Fiesta 2008 program at the Moline High School Auditorium on Friday, June 13.  A large crowd was treated to this new era for the group that is now under the direction of Karina Camarillo and is continuing this annual tradition of a QCBF program that for four years was not presented. <\/p>\n

Mexican Fiesta 2008 presented its three groups of different age brackets doing dances from the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Nayarit, Nuevo Leon, Jalisco, Veracruz, Guerrero, Chiapas, and Michoacán.  Normally the group is featured in community events and can only do a select few dances but this night the group did dances that are rarely seen.  <\/p>

The night had many memorable moments including the always impressive “Popurri Nayarita” from Nayarit that includes six guys from the first group dancing and doing maneuvers with machetes even while blindfolded.  Nuevo Leon had the same “older” group in a competition between guys and girls that went from one side of the stage to the other.   “La Bamba” from Veracruz showed how talented the second group was when the couples put a long ribbon on the floor and made a bow with their feet. <\/p>\n

Another crow-pleasing moment was when the little kids group did dances from Chiapas and the happy kids with their big smiles jumped around for “El Sapo” (The Toad).  Longtime members and now assistant instructors Ray Terronez and Ashley Terronez took the stage once again for a great performance of “El Gavilancillo” from Jalisco.  <\/p>\n

These new groups of the QCBF showed everyone and themselves that the group still continues to carry the talent to give a quality program that entertains and at the same time makes you proud of a beautiful culture. <\/p>\n
