Dillashaw and Garbrandt run in back in a bantamweight title rematch tonight at UFC 227 on PPV

The UFC bantamweight division currently holds one of the worst rivalries in the sport to date and tonight at UFC 227, current UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw (16-3) and Cody Garbrandt (11-1) will lock horns again in the main event of the evening and after losing the belt to Dillashaw last November at UFC 217, Garbrandt is ready to be king of the division again. “It’s a completely different mindset going into this fight for multiple reasons,” explained Garbrandt. “TJ got me in that fight but I made great adjustments and I’m excited to go out there and showcase my skills that I’ve been working on.”

The roots of Dillashaw’s and Garbrandt’s rivalry spans back to 2015 and really didn’t even start with the two. Dillashaw was asked to leave Team Alpha Male when he and striking coach Dwayne Ludwig began to go back and forth between the TAM gym in California and Elevation Fight Team in Denver. Garbrandt has taken that onto his shoulders now and seems to know that fighting off emotion is something that may have cost him the title in their first fight. “Maybe I was a little bit too emotional,” said Garbrant. “I didn’t engage with TJ. That’s something that I learned from the last fight, that I don’t need to get too emotionally involved. I’ve just got to go out there and fight”

A win from Garbrandt tonight would most definitely set up a trilogy fight in the future. And it seems like that is something both want so that they can close the chapter of this already long book. But tonight, both Dillashaw and Garbrandt seem very confident that it will be there hand raised at the end of the night. “Once you knock someone out, they can’t be as brash, they can’t be as confident in themselves so, it’s a completely different game.” said Dillashaw. “I’m more excited for that,” said Garbrant. “To end the chapter with TJ and move on but yes, this will not be the last time I face TJ. I’m going to know him out Saturday and then I want to make him beg for the rematch.”

UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw will face Cody Garbrandt in title fight tonight in the main event of UFC 227 LIVE from Los Angeles, CA and only on PPV. 10pm ET/7pm PT
