It was at UFC 172, that current UFC women’s bantamweight contender and undefeated fighter Betche Correia (9-0) got the attention of current UFC bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey (11-0).
Immediately after defeating Rousey’s teammate Jessamyn Duke, who is also one fourth of “The Four Horsewomen”, a name given to Rousey, Duke, Shayna Baszler and Marina Shafir, Correia put her four fingers up and pulled the pinky down signifying that she had one down and 2 to go to get to Rousey and the title. She did the same at UFC 177, getting a TKO win over Baszler which put her one step closer to the title. One year later, on Saturday, August 1st, she will have her shot at the title in the main even of UFC 190: Rousey vs. Correia.
The night’s co-main event has been ten years in the making as light-heavyweights, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-6) looks to avenge his loss from 2005 in Pride, to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (22-10).
Also on the main card, heavyweights Stefan Struve will take on Minotauro Nogueira, Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Soa Palelei will trade shots to see who can knock out whom first and former World Series of Fighting strawweight champion, Jessica Aguilar will make her UFC debut taking on Claudia Gadelha.
UFC 190: Rousey vs, Correia is Saturday, August 1st, live from Rio de Janeiro and live on PPV, 10pm ET, and 7pm PT.
