Saturday marks one of the busiest days of the year for Mixed Martial Arts. With UFC 180 making its debut in Mexico City, Tito Ortiz and Stephan Bonnar finally putting their trash talk to rest at Bellator 131 and World Series of Fighting 15 all on one night, you would think current WSOF strawweight champion, Jessica Aguilar (18-4) would be worried that her title fight against Kalindra Faria (15-3) may fly under the MMA radar. She’s not.
“I’m not nervous at all,” said Aguilar. “It just shows that our sport is growing and it makes me even happier.”
Aguilar is currently riding a nine fight win streak and having already defended her title for the first time back in June, is ready for whatever Faria brings on Saturday night.
“Sometimes I forget I have the title,” said Aguilar. I just want to go out there and win.” Her opponent is also coming in with an impressive streak of her own as Faria hasn’t lost in her last eleven fights. That doesn’t bother Aguilar either. “She’s a tough opponent,” said Aguilar. “She wanted to fight the best, so she is getting her opportunity to do that.”
Coming off of a decision win in her first title defense against Emi Fujino at WSOF 10, Aguilar wants this one to be different. “I want to go in and finish the fight,” said Aguilar. “I know what I need to know about her and I want to finish as quickly as possible.”
Some fight for fame, others for money, for Aguilar, fighting is a lifestyle. “There is nothing else that keeps me grounded,” said Aguilar. “This is what I love to do and I’ll continue training and winning so I can be the best.”
Jessica Aguilar puts her strawweight title on the line versus Kalindra Faria on Saturday, November 15th at World Series of Fighting 15 at 9pm ET on the NBC Sports Network.
