Irene Aldana fights for bantamweight title at Invicta FC 13

With all the changes in fight cards lately and sitting through fights that simply just don’t live up to the hype, one thing you can rely on is the rising star power of Invicta FC mixed martial artist, Irene Aldana.  Having gone 2-0 in Invicta thus far and 5-1 overall, the Guadalajara, Mexico native fights for the Invicta FC vacant bantamweight title on Thursday, July 9th at Invicta FC 13, and to her surprise, this opportunity came a bit earlier than expected.  “I didn’t imagine it was going to be this fast,” said Aldana.  “But we always visualized good results.”

If you don’t know much about Aldana yet, you will.  And you may have already gotten a glimpse of her and Lobo Gym teammate Alexa Grasso as guests of UFC President, Dana White at UFC 188, which was also in Mexico that night.  “I was given the opportunity to represent them (UFC),” explained Aldana.  “Mexicans love to fight and it’s amazing we can be part of such great organizations like Invicta and the UFC.”

Aldana finished her last two opponents in the first round by way of rear naked chokes, but doesn’t let that go to her head in training camp where she is teammates and friends with another rising star in the sport, Invicta FC strawweight, Alexa Grasso.  “Having her as a close friend and teammate is a big thing for me and a big help,” said Aldana.  “We learn faster together and share what an amazing emotional roller coaster this is.  I see her as a little sister.”

With her upcoming title fight just days away, Aldana says she feels no added pressure at all.  “I always train for every fight like it’s a title fight,” said Aldana.  “We studied her and every opponent.  It’s crucial to have a good strategy.”

As Invicta FC continues to grow its brand and showcase their fighters on bigger platforms with each show, Aldana is looking to cement her place in MMA history this Thursday night, but Aldana made it very clear that she will never forget where she came from and why she fights.  “Being a representative of Mexico’s MMA is a huge honor for me,” said Aldana.  “I love my county, my traditions and my family, so it’s important to me that I do the best I can.  The people who know me, know I will always give my best and my heart in the ring and I know I have their support no matter what.”

Irene Aldana will take on Tonya Evinger for the vacant Invicta FC bantamweight title in the co-min event at Invicta FC 13: Cyborg vs. Van Duin on Thursday, July 9th, streaming LIVE on UFC Fight Pass.
