Invicta FC, the all-women’s mixed martial arts organization, made its announcement on Monday that they will have another event in July, but it will not be in Vegas for UFC’s International Fight Week.
Instead, on Friday, July 29th, the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, MO will host Invicta FC 18 with undefeated strawweight sensation, Alexa Grasso (7-0) and Jodie Esquibel (5-1) in the main event of the night. Grasso has not fought since February of 2015, due to back to back injuries that pulled her out of two events.
In the co-main event of the evening, Grasso’s teammate, Irene Aldana will face Taila Santos in a bantamweight match. Aldana is coming off an impressive win over Jessamyn Duke last March and with a win over Santos, Aldana would get another shot at the Invicta bantamweight title and current champion Tonya Evinger. Aldana lost via TKO to Evinger last July at Invicta FC 13.
Having more than one team member fight on a card is never a bad thing. That means that more people will be stepping up their training during the fight camp. And Team Lobo fighters, Aldana and Grasso credit the closeness of their team to their success. “We really are a family,” explained Aldana. “We always are in good communication and we are really loyal to our team, coaches and country.”
Invicta FC 18: Grasso vs Esquibel is on Friday, July 29th from the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, MO and will stream LIVE and exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.
