Group O’s unique partnership sends local entrepreneur to Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business

MILAN, IL – Quad Cities entrepreneur Tom Terronez is going to the Ivy League, thanks to a scholarship arrangement between Group O CEO Gregg Ontiveros and the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Terronez, 33, is the founder and president of Terrostar (www.terrostar.com), a Bettendorf, IA-based strategic marketing firm, and Medix Dental (www.medixdental.com), a technology and consulting provider to the dental industry.  As part of the scholarship, he will attend an intensive week-long program for minority business owners at Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business in Hanover, NH.

Ontiveros received the scholarship – which is underwritten by Dartmouth and the Nina Vaca Foundation – when he was recognized as the 2012 Hispanic Businessman of the Year by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at its annual conference last September.  Rather than accept the scholarship directly, however, Ontiveros selected Terronez as a local Hispanic business owner who could benefit from the knowledge and training provided through the Dartmouth program.

“I’ve been fortunate to have received some great opportunities to help further the growth of my own business and realized that this was a chance to pay that forward,” said Ontiveros.  “By helping minority entrepreneurs like Tom advance their businesses, I believe that our entire community will benefit.”

Terronez is already off to a good start.  His local businesses employ __ and work with a number of regional and national clients.  Terrostar was also recognized May 15 by the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce as a finalist for the Small Business Excellence Award.

Like Ontiveros, Terronez has been active in the local community.  He is a current or past board member and active supporter of a variety of organizations, including the Greater Quad Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce, IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union, Bettendorf Library Foundation and the Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center.

“This opportunity was both a surprise and a blessing,” said Terronez.  “I am confident that the experience will provide an unquantifiable benefit to my businesses and all of the organizations that I am a part of.”
