El Mercado on Fifth is set to open on Friday August 26 on the corner of 5th Avenue and 12th street at the Floreciente neighborhood in Moline, IL.
El Mercado on Fifth will be like a Farmer’s Market with a cultural element reflecting of the Floreciente neighborhood. You will see fruit and vegetables vendors as well as other vendors from area businesses.
This idea has been in the mind of Mr. Bob Ontiveros for some years now. Mr. Ontiveros is a native of the Floreciente neighborhood and is the owner of the location where the Market on Fifth will take place.
“Now that the economy is picking up, the train station is coming, there’s a lot of activity. As you see at the farmers market in Davenport is really thriving. We need something in Illinois to compliment that,” Mr. Ontiveros said.
Market on Fifth will feature several local vendors, live music by local artists and even an outdoor movie projector.
The band The Crooked Cactus will play on opening day from 7 to 9 pm and the film featured for the outdoor showing will be “Selena” and will start at 9 PM. So do not forget to bring your garden chair to the Boys and Girls Club Teen Center at 1118 5th Avenue.
Mr. Ontiveros vision a now a reality with El Mercado on Fifth in the Floreciente neighborhood in Moline. The market will be a place of commerce, culture and entertainment for the whole family. Please join us on Friday August 26th starting at 5PM and every Friday until October 28 at the corner of 5th Avenue and 12th Street in Moline.
